Early Career Breakthroughs of Jennifer Lopez

Born July 24, 1969, in the Bronx, Lopez began her career as a dancer, appearing in stage musicals & various music videos. She won a national competition & earned a spot dancing on the popular Fox comedy TV series, "In Living Color," as one of the "Fly Girls." in 1990. Her first feature film was the critically acclaimed Mi Familia, or My Family, in 1995. She also starred in Money Train (1995), opposite Wesley Snipes & Woody Harrelson, & in Jack (1996). Her first big break came in 1997, when she was selected to play the main role in Selena. Lopez earned widespread praise for her performance, including a Golden Globe nomination, & became the highest-paid actress in history with her paycheck of 1 million USD. That same year, Lopez starred in the forgettable Anaconda & in Blood & Wine. Her musical career also began gorgeously, as she released her debut Latin pop album, in June, 1999. The album, due to massive success of her single, If You Had My Love, went platinum within 2 weeks.

Early in 2000, Jennifer Lopez was nominated for Best Dance Performance for her second hit single Waiting for Tonight. She starred in the science fiction-thriller The Cell, in which she plays a kids psychologist. The same year, she worked in Enough, a portrayal of spousal abuse.

The popularity of the multi-talented Lopez reached new heights in 2001, when her album, J. Lo debuted at No. 1 on the pop charts. At the same time, her film, The Wedding Planner, reach the top spot at the box office in its first week of release. In December 2002, she performed a starring role in the comedy Maid in Manhattan, which was another box office hit.

Personal Life 

Lopez was briefly married, in 1997, to Ojani Noa, a model & actor. She then had a lengthy & widely publicized relationship with rapper Sean "Puffy" Combs, but after few days Combs confirmed that he & Lopez had separated.

Soon after her breakup from Combs, Lopez began dating Cris Judd, a dancer who took part in the video Love Don't Cost a Thing. After much speculation, the couples announced their engagement in August 2001 & were married in late September. However, after nine months, the couple separated. In the fall of 2002, she began dating actor Ben Affleck. Following rumors of the relationship's demise, they broke up in 2004. Lopez subsequently married singer Marc Anthony in 2004 at her Los Angeles mansion.

In 2010, despite being busy with her family & both music & acting projects, Lopez decided to enter in American Idol as the new female judge on its tenth season. However, her personal life was troubled. In July 2011, Lopez & Marc Anthony announced their plans to separate.
