Eldrick Tiger Woods born in December 30, 1975, is considered one of the greatest golfers of the world. In 2005, at his 29, he reached the milestone of ten professional big golf championships, placing him third on the all time list behind Jack Nicklaus & Walter Hagen. With his three U.S. Amateur Championship wins he & Bobby Jones are the only golfers to win 13 majors before age 30. Woods has won more times on the PGA Tour than any other active golfer & he holds the PGA Tour record for most consecutive tournament cuts made with 142.
Tiger Woods, who is of mixed race, is credited with prompting a major surge of interest in the game of golf, especially among racial minorities & younger people in the United States.

Background & family of Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is from a comfortable social background. He was born in California. His father, Earl Woods, is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, of mixed African American, Caucasian, & Native American ancestry. He is now the chairman of Wood’s charitable Tiger Woods Foundation. Woods' mother Kultida Woods is originally from Thailand & has mixed Thai & Chinese origin.
Woods' actual given name is Eldrick & He was given the nickname Tiger at birth after a Vietnamese war comrade of his father's & became generally known by that name. However, by the time he was achieving national prominence in amateur golf, was always called Tiger Woods.
In 2003, Woods became engaged to Elin Nordegren, a Swedish model. In 2004, they married in a sunset ceremony at the Sandy Lane Hotel & Golf Club on Barbados amid armed security before 200 family & friends.

Amateur career

Woods was a child genius who began to play golf at a very young age. In 1984 he won the 9-10 boys' event at the Junior World Golf Championships. He went on to win the American Junior Amateur title in 1991, 1992 & 1993. He remains the youngest ever winner & the only multiple winner. He followed this with 3 consecutive American Amateur titles the next 3 years. With his first US Amateur win in 1994, Woods became the youngest man ever to win that event. He attended Stanford University & won one NCAA individual championship.

Professional career

In August 1996, Woods became a professional golfer playing his first round of professional golf at the Greater Milwaukee Open. He won 2 events in the 3 months of the 1996 season that he played as a professional. The following April Woods won The Masters by a record margin of 12 shots & he has been by far the highest profile golfer in the world since then. In the summer of 1997, he made a great achievement to be the number one in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time. To date, Woods has won 45 official money events on the PGA Tour & 15 other professional titles.
Tiger Woods is one of only 5 players in the history of golf to have won all 4 professional major championships in his career.
