Jeremy Shu-How Lin, born August 23, 1988, is an USA basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After not receiving any athletic scholarship offers out of high school and being undrafted out of college, Jeremy Linreached a partially guaranteed deal in 2010 with his hometown team, the Golden State Warriors. Jeremy Lin rarely played during his first season and was assigned to the NBA Development League (D-League) three times.
Jeremy Lin was waived by the Warriors and also the Rockets the next preseason before he joined the New York Knicks early in the 2011–12 season. Jeremy Lin continued to play seldomly and spend time in the D-League. But then in February 2012, he unexpectedly led the Knicks in a winning streak that led to his promotion to the starting lineup, which generated a worldwide buzz referred to as “Linsanity.” Jeremy Lin then signed a three-year contract with the Rockets in the summer of 2012. Lin is one of the few Asian Americans ever to play in the history of the NBA, and is also the first American of Chinese or Taiwanese descent ever to play in the NBA. He is also well-known for his very public expression of his commitment to Christianity.
Early Life of Jeremy Lin
The middle child of Taiwanese immigrants, Jeremy Lin started playing basketball at his local YMCA at a young age. He played basketball for Palo Alto High School, where he was named team captain in his senior year, the same year his team won the state title. In addition to being a powerful athlete, Jeremy Linalso excelled academically, earning very high grades in his classes. He was also the editor of his high school newspaper, and spent a summer interning for California legislator Joe Simitian. Despite all of his achievements, both on and off the court, Jeremy Lin was not able to land a basketball scholarship for college. Nevertheless, he attended Harvard University, where he became a force to be reckoned with on their basketball team. During his four years there, Jeremy Lincompeted in 115 games, averaging 12.9 points per game, and was selected for the All-Ivy League First Team in his final two years. Being the only Asian-USA player in his division, life on the court wasn't always easy for Jeremy Lin. Even though he sometimes had to deal with racist slurs being hurled at him by fans and competitors, he did not allow these nasty comments to discourage him.
Career Breakthrough of Jeremy Lin
Jeremy Lin got picked up by the New York Knicks and took the sports world by storm in February 2012. After spending many games as little more than a benchwarmer, he eventually proved he was worthy of the starting lineup when he scored 25 points against the New Jersey Nets, leading his team to victory. He quickly became an instrumental part of a seven-game winning streak, earning more points than the legendary Kobe Bryant in a similar match-up against the LA Lakers. Almost overnight, Jeremy Linwent from being relatively unknown to a globally famous basketball star. He appeared on the covers of many different magazines, and replicas of his Number 17 jersey soon became a big seller. That April, however, Jeremy Lin was benched for the remainder of the regular season due to a knee injury that required surgery. However, he received a $25.l million deal from the Houston Rockets in July 2012. Knicks representatives had previously stated that they would match any deal offered to Jeremy Lin. However, according to the latest reports, the Knicks are not attempting to keep Jeremy Lin by matching the Rockets’ latest offer. The media and fan mania surrounding Jeremy Lin has been nicknamed "Linsanity." Across the world, Jeremy Lin has emerged as a phenomenon. He has shown that with dedication and determination, it is possible to realize a dream while defying negative cultural stereotypes.
Personal Life of Jeremy Lin
A devout Christian, Jeremy Lin has been known to tweet Biblical verses. He’s very close with his two brothers. He even crashed on his older brother Josh's couch when he first visited New York to play for the Knicks. Lin’s younger brother, Joseph, plays basketball for Hamilton College. Jeremy Lin stands at about 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs around two hundred pounds. Jeremy Lin is close friends with teammate Landry Fields, with whom he shares a special “nerdy” pre-game ritual.
